As a sign against Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine, the heads of state and government of almost all European countries will meet in Prague on Thursday. The first meeting of the so-called “European Political Community” aims to bring together the 27 EU member states and non-EU European countries “in a spirit of unity”. The new format dates back to an initiative by French President Emmanuel Macron.

No concrete resolutions are planned, security policy, the economic situation, energy and climate, as well as migration and mobility are discussed. On Friday, an informal EU summit in Prague will address the European response to the illegal annexations of Ukrainian territories announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Critical infrastructure protection and economic development are also on the agenda. Austria is represented by Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP).
