Guardians try to take down Rays, Mariners go after Blue Jays in Wild Card Game 2

The 2022 MLB season is moving into a brave new world, a 12-team postseason category that will decide a champion next month. In the explosion of high-stakes baseball, eight teams — Guardians-Rays, Cardinals-Phillies, Blue Jays-Mariners, Mets-Padres — compete for the right to promotion. And it’s going to be really fast. The new best-of-three wildcard series began Friday as the Padres humiliated Max Scherzer and the Phillies turned the tables in St. Louis.

The top seeds they would face in the next round are known – the Los Angeles Dodgers, Houston Astros, Atlanta Braves and New York Yankees. But surely some of these challengers have intentions to overthrow baseball’s existing world order.

First they have to get through this weekend. On Saturday, three home teams, those higher seeded, will be eliminated face down.

Game 2: Tampa Bay Rays v Cleveland Guardians – 12:07 p.m., ESPN2 (Guardians lead, 1-0)

Game 2: Seattle Mariners v Toronto Blue Jays – 4:07 p.m. ESPN (Mariners lead, 1-0)

Game 2: San Diego Padres v New York Mets – 7:37 p.m. ESPN (Padres lead, 1-0)

Game 2: Philadelphia Phillies vs. St. Louis Cardinals – 8:37 p.m., ESPN2 (Phillies lead, 1-0)
