An unlicensed truck driver destroyed a church in North Carolina, USA, but the priest rushed to the driver's aid and immediately forgave him.
The incident occurred on Saturday when the driver of the truck drove into the Unida Hispana Pentecostal church, two walls of which were destroyed, for reasons that are still unclear.
As the New York Post reported on Tuesday, driver Boddy Dean McKinney got his truck stuck in the wall, which collapsed under the force of the impact.
Father Bienveido Alegria, who witnessed the collision, quickly intervened to help the 32-year-old truck driver, who was still in shock, whom he forgave.
“I say, maybe my son or my nephew or someone else,” the clergyman told WSOC-TV, who told the 30-year-old after the accident, “I love you.”
Police told local media that the suspect's driver's license was revoked and he was driving recklessly before the accident.
Father Alegria and his congregation have launched a fundraising campaign to rebuild the partially destroyed church, the New York Post added.
