A one-year-old girl was killed after violent hailstorms in Spain. The child was hit by a 10 cm hail ball.
A one-year-old girl was killed in a violent hailstorm in the Spanish region of Catalonia on Tuesday. Hailstones the size of tennis balls injured another 29 people.
The hail ball that killed the one-year-old would have a diameter of 10 centimeters. The incident reportedly happened near the Catalan town of La Bisbal de l’Emporda. On Tuesday afternoon, the girl was immediately taken to Josep Trueta Hospital in Girona, where she died an hour later.
According to the Catalan Meteorological Service, the largest hailstones have been recorded in twenty years.
