Instantly, a tornado rushes toward the Nebraska Highway—while TWO DOZEN hurricanes rip through the interior

Stunning footage captured the moment a powerful tornado sped toward a Nebraska freeway, passing dangerously close to moving cars.

The fearsome hurricane was one of at least two dozen tornadoes that have struck multiple states, including Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Montana and Louisiana.

Video footage shows the massive weather system building near the Nebraska Highway before approaching oncoming traffic.

Then you can see how the menacing spiral of the freeway approaches only a few centimeters while cars try to drive past it.

Severe weather is expected to rage across the Great Plains and south through the weekend as the storm front flattens buildings in its path.

Aerial footage showed the roof of a supermarket ripped off in Noble, Oklahoma, where at least four other stores and homes were leveled by the storm.

The National Weather Service issued tornado warnings for numerous counties in Nebraska and Kansas through Friday evening, while severe weather warnings were rolled out from Missouri to Texas.

Wind gusts of up to 120 km/h caused extensive structural damage in several states, while the storm also reported large hail and torrential rain in numerous counties.

Much of the damage occurred in rural areas of the Midwest, so the National Weather Service warned the full extent of the destruction might not be known until morning.

There were no immediate reports of deaths from the tornadoes.

In Weskan, Kansas, a multi-vortex tornado ripped off part of the roof of a school while simultaneously damaging numerous buildings, including stadium stands and a scoreboard.

“After we left the shelter – it was in the big gym – I noticed a waterfall [as] “The roof was pretty badly damaged and water got in from the rain,” Jeff Montero, principal at Weskan Schools, told KWCH.

“And then as we walked through the building, we saw broken glass. And then upstairs in my office and a few other offices and classrooms and stuff, you can look up and you can see the sky.”

Weskan Schools were just three days from the end of the year and had the alum-funded grandstands ready for their graduation ceremony.

The $75,000 grandstands stood in front of the school for just a week and a half before the twister destroyed the building. However, Montero admitted that he was “just glad no one got hurt.”

Additional tornadoes also made landfall in McDonald, Grove County and Edson in Kansas, according to Accuweather.

In Colorado, many short-lived tornadoes have been spotted near Arapahoe County — near Denver. More tornadoes were also spotted in Nebraska.

Outside of the hurricanes, the Great Plains suffered torrential rain and hail, with some areas raining for two days on average for two months.

Cherry Creek Reservoir State Park in Colorado sustained about 10 inches of damage Tuesday, damaging several roads and creating massive holes and cracks in the pavement.
