“We recently learned that among the victims was a dual citizen whose French nationality we did not know,” said a spokesman for the Quai d'Orsay this Thursday

The list of victims is growing. A 42nd Frenchman has been identified among the victims of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas in Israel's bloody October 7 attack, the start of the war in Gaza, the French foreign ministry said on Thursday.

“Unfortunately, we are forced to increase the number of French victims of the attacks (October 7, editor's note) to 42. “We recently learned that among the victims was a dual citizen whose French nationality we did not know,” a spokesman for the Quai d'Orsay said during a press conference.

Three French people are still hostages

He did not provide any information about the victim's age or the circumstances of his death, recalling that three Frenchmen were “still hostages in the Gaza Strip.”

On October 7, Hamas commandos carried out an unprecedented attack on Israeli soil, killing more than 1,140 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP count based on official data.

In retaliation, Israel vowed to “destroy” Hamas and launched a large-scale military operation that killed 25,700 Palestinians, the vast majority women, children and teenagers, according to the Islamist movement's health ministry.
