Israel: More trucks with food than before the war in Gaza

According to Israeli data, in the last two weeks more trucks transporting food have arrived in the Gaza Strip than before the war with Hamas. Public news channel Kan reported this this morning. Israel is under increasing international pressure to allow more aid deliveries due to the devastating humanitarian situation of the Gaza population.

According to Kan, there has been an average of 102 trucks per day bringing food to Gaza over the past two weeks. Immediately before the war, 70 trucks a day delivered food from Israel to the Gaza Strip.

Most of the trucks are currently arriving in Gaza via the Egyptian side – after having been checked by Israel to exclude the delivery of weapons. Due to the destruction caused by the war, there is practically no food production in Gaza. Therefore, more deliveries are needed, Kan said.

Aid convoy was looted

Just yesterday, an aid convoy with 14 trucks from the UN World Food Program (WFP) was first rejected by the Israeli army and then looted by a mob. The convoy initially had to stop at the Wadi Gaza checkpoint in southeastern Palestinian territory for three hours and was then rerouted, WFP said. A “large crowd of desperate people” then stopped the trucks and grabbed around 200 tons.

According to UN estimates, 2.2 million people in the Gaza Strip are currently on the brink of famine – especially in the north of the region, where the Israeli army has not yet granted access to aid. The WFP described the situation as “catastrophic”.
