Even an amateur tournament in Uruguay has video arbitration, while the professional league in Peru has yet to implement it.

From day one, the competition was equipped with video referees, as revealed by journalist Sergio Feris, who was one of those responsible for its implementation, reports the Argentine newspaper Olé. This competition brings together 17 teams divided into four groups: three of four and one of five. The tournament faces the clubs from the neighborhood of Paysandú in Uruguay.
“At the Torneo de los Barrios 2023, the referees used the VAR (Video Assistant Referee) for the first time in football in inland Uruguay. It started applying on the 1st appointment, was sent off and reversed the decision of a penalty awarded by the referee,” Feris said on his Twitter account.

Contrary to what is happening in Uruguay where there is an amateur competition with VAR; In Peru, the Liga 1 professional championship has not yet implemented it. In 2022 some changes were made in Peruvian football, one of them was video arbitration from the 2023 season, but this would only happen at the final tournament that year.
