Members of K-pop group BTS will release their memoirs in South Korea and the United States in July, their US publisher announced, an announcement that has sparked a wave of excitement from their fans around the world.
The boy band, widely regarded as South Korea’s most important cultural phenomenon, fills stadiums around the world and tops the music charts. The seven members of BTS bring billions into the country’s economy and form a massive fan base called ARMY.
The book, titled “Beyond the Story: 10-Year Record of BTS,” was written by South Korean journalist Kang Myeong-seok and members of the boy band, according to the publisher.
“Who’s impatient? (…) #livreBTS,” American publisher Flatiron Books wrote on Instagram on Thursday, sharing an article about the forthcoming book.
BTS’ 544-page memoir will be released on July 9, according to the Amazon website. A date of homage as it marks the 10th anniversary of the founding of ARMY, their fan community.
“I can’t wait to read the book… It’s so cool to look back on the last 10 years with BTS,” tweeted one fan.
Social media and online forums have been inundated with speculation about the possible release of a book by a celebrity in July after an untitled book by the publisher, due for release in July, surfaced a few days ago on retail platforms, The Washington Post reports. .
Internet users had speculated that it was a work by American singer Taylor Swift. The mystery book topped the best-seller charts after pre-orders began on Amazon and Barnes and Noble bookstores.
BTS is currently on hiatus, allowing the group members to pursue solo projects while two of them complete their military service.
In South Korea, all able-bodied males are required to have at least 18 months of military service, and after years of debate over whether BTS deserves an exemption, Jin, the group’s eldest, was the first to submit to that exemption in 2022, ahead of J-Hope in April 2023 .
