Quebec's Leylah Fernandez continued her good run on Wednesday at the WTA tournament in Doha, Qatar, thanks to a win against China's Qinwen Zheng, seventh player in the world.

Fernandez reached the quarterfinals thanks to a 7:5, 6:3 win against the youngest Australian Open finalist.

Fernandez conceded a break just once, while she broke her opponent's serve three times on four occasions.

“I feel really good and I'm excited to be on the field and competing,” the Quebecer said in an on-field interview after the meet. […] I'm very happy with the (playing) level. There is still a lot to do, but I am moving forward with positive energy.”

The Quebecer, who is ranked 38th in the WTA rankings, reached the quarterfinals of one of the most important tournaments of the season in the WTA circuit (WTA1000) in addition to the four major competitions.

Fernandez's next opponent will be Kazakh Elena Rybakina, who defeated American Emma Navarro.
