Paris, November 5 (Prensa Latina) French President Emmanuel Macron has invited the leaders of political parties to a second round of dialogue on issues on the agenda such as improving the possibilities for calling a referendum, the press published today.
According to media such as the newspaper Le Figaro and the BFM television channel, the president sent the heads of state and government an invitation to a meeting on November 17, continuing the meeting held at the end of August in Saint-Denis, on the outskirts of this capital. where the discussions lasted more than 10 hours.
The text in question reflects the desire to extend the referendum option to social issues, including immigration and euthanasia, which would mean amending the 1958 Constitution, an issue that the head of state had already raised in early October on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the Birth of the Fifth Republic.
The current Magna Carta limits the scope of referendums to the organization of public authorities and the power to trigger them to parliamentarians.
In this regard, Macron indicated in the invitation document that he was interested in extending this power to citizens and reducing the number of required signatures, which, according to the constitution, represents 10 percent of the electoral rolls.
Decentralization, the overseas territories and the complex international scenario, in particular the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, are also among the topics proposed for discussion, always according to the media that have spread the information that is gradually having an impact on the region’s social networks.
