The glory of being crowned champions won’t be the only motivation for Melgar and Sporting Cristal to seek their place in the 2022 League 1 Finals. Both teams can secure a millionaire amount from Conmebol just getting into the definition for the title would be good for them next season.
According to the rules of the Peruvian championship, the two finalists qualify for the group stage of the Copa Libertadores 2023, which rewards their participating clubs with 3 million dollars (1 million per home game), a sum that could still increase, as has been the case in recent years years like that.
In contrast, the Peru 3 odds (which will come from the loser between Rimenses and Rojinegros) play the second preliminary round of the continental tournament that awarded just $500,000 in 2022.

In addition to these incentives for the Libertadores, Conmebol will give $1 million to all national champions in their federations. This amount can be divided between two teams – as in the case of Paraguay and Colombia – but in Peru the whole would be allocated to a single team.
That way, the 2022 League 1 winner would start the 2023 campaign with $4 million already insured in their treasury.
How much does league 1 pay champions and runners-up?
At the local level, the Consorcio Fútbol Perú, the company that owns the GolPerú channel that televises most of the matches, will be responsible for the economic awards for the champion, runner-up and third place in League 1 2022. Compared to international rewards, the amounts offered are much more modest.
- First Place: The League 1 champion takes home $354,000.
- Runner-up: Runner-up earns $236,000.
- Third Place: The team wins $118,000.
