Meteorite that fell in US may have been Comet Halley West Magazine

A metallic meteorite landed on the roof of a family home in the town of Hopewell, New Jersey, USA. US. The curious thing: the object probably comes from Halley’s Comet. Hopewell Police took to social media to report what happened on Monday 8th.

According to the company, the family home hit by the meteorite was occupied at the time. But nobody was hurt. He would have pierced the roof, ceiling and finally the wooden floor of the residence. “The object has an elongated shape and appears to be metallic,” police said.

A Hopewell Police reported that the incident may be related to the Eta Aquarid meteor shower, made up of fragments from Comet Halley. According to the National Observatory, Halley has an orbital period of about 75 years. Its next perihelion (the point in the planet’s orbit where it is closest to the Sun) will occur in 2061, when it will again be visible from Earth.

The National Observatory reported that “Meteor showers pose no threat to Earth and occur virtually every month, some with greater intensity and greater visibility.”

Eta Aquarids was given that name because its radiant the point at which “shooting stars” appear is in the constellation of Aquarius, near the brightest star in the constellation, Eta Aquarii. The meteor shower, which occurs in early May each year, peaked between the 4th and 5th of that month.
