More than five tons of cocaine found in Colombia and Panama

Colombia and Panama seized more than 5.5 tons of cocaine in three boats. The Navy then stopped two boats in the Gulf of Morrosquillo and found about two tons of cocaine each.

A third boat with another 1.5 tons of cocaine on board allegedly arrived in the sovereign territory of Panama’s Central American neighbor, but was detained by security forces. Nine people were arrested and detained in Colombia on charges of drug trafficking.

Colombia is the most important country of origin for cocaine. From there, the drug made from the coca plant is smuggled by sea to the United States and Europe.
