Nick Knowles has revealed he almost lost his tongue during a scary stunt while filming a daring documentary in Mongolia.
The dangerous incident occurred when the 61-year-old TV presenter met a shaman who burned a knife to white heat.
The shaman then told Nick that he had to lick the sword to “get rid of evil spirits”, which he did, despite fearing that he would no longer be able to speak due to the burning.
Because of risky challenges like these, Nick, best known as the host of DIY: SOS, revealed that he pays for his own insurance, which includes emergency helicopter rescue.
Nick has risked everything before by getting stuck in a crevice in the Grand Canyon, climbing towers, and flying gyrocopters in stormy weather.

Speaking to The Sun, he said: “You can't get insurance because a lot of the programs I do are such big adventures.”
“I’m actually paying a huge amount now to make sure I have helicopter extraction insurance instead.”
Despite the danger of his adventures, Nick insisted he wouldn't do it any other way.
He said: “The star added that his shoulders, back, knees and neck are all 'battered' due to previous accidents, but he sees them all as badges of honour.”
It comes just after Nick's fiancée Katie Dadzie was forced to hit back after she was shamed by trolls for stripping down to her underwear to promote her brand.
One Instagram user said: “You should respect your husband and honestly not show off on social media.”
“It's not nice for him to know that everyone is looking at you…should be just for him…”
Katie hit back, commenting: “Shit!” before adding: “He's okay with it but thanks anyway.”

The commenter then added: “I'm not a hater or anything.” It just makes me sad that women still do this when they have a loving man at home… It's just a shame. “You look lovely and you don’t really need to do that.”
But Katie shot back: “I have to feed my kids and pay the rent myself – if promoting lingerie for my company helps that then it's about us, not anyone else.”
“It's probably more of a shame that you think having a partner means you have to be ashamed and hide.”
TV star Nick, who split from wife Jessica Rose Moor in 2016, made his first appearance with Katie in September 2021 after ending his romance with PR guru Emily Hallinan in February 2020.
The couple made their public debut as a couple at a restaurant in Bath after being friends for several years.

Katie addressed the age difference, insisting she didn't notice it because she acted older than her age, while Nick had a “Peter Pan complex”.
She told The Sun: “Nick has a Peter Pan complex, he doesn't act at all the age he is.” “He's like a teenager and has so much energy, I act a bit older too, So it works.”
Katie went on to reveal that the secret to their successful relationship is having separate homes and maintaining their own independence.
Katie gave a glimpse into their relationship, gushing that they were “really happy” and that they made sure to make time for their work and to spend time with their children.
Nick was married to Gillian Knowles from 1996 to 2000.
Katie has daughters Savannah, eight, and Alex, five, from a previous relationship, while Nick has four children from three different relationships.
He shares his daughter Tuesday and son Charlie with his ex-wife Gillian, while he shares another son, TJ, with dancer Paula Beckett.
Nick also has son Eddie, born in 2014, with his ex-wife Jessica, and the presenter met his girlfriend Katie through his youngest son.
