Mr Morisset will therefore leave the AMF at the end of his current term of office, i.e. on July 1, 2023.
Until that date, “he will continue in his role as CEO of the agency with the same conviction and determination before considering his future career,” the AMF said in a press release.
Recall that Louis Morisset joined the AMF as Superintendent of Securities Markets before being appointed CEO by the Quebec government in July 2013 for an initial five-year term.
His mandate was then extended in 2018.
“I believe we have come a long way since 2013 and that our amazing organization now occupies a very important place at the heart of Quebec’s financial ecosystem.
I’ve done my best over the years and I’m very satisfied and proud of what we’ve achieved together.”
“After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that now is the time to hand over the responsibility of taking the Authority to new heights,” added Mr Morisset.
The Chair of the Authority’s Board of Directors, Robert Panet-Raymond, underlined “his commitment and immense contribution over the years”.
“He will leave an indelible mark on the Authority and his leadership will have enabled the Authority to evolve into a higher value-added role for consumers and industry and achieve unprecedented impact locally, nationally and internationally.” , he told Mr Panet-Raymond.
The Finance Minister of Quebec, Éric Girard, also praised Mr. Morisset’s work: “Over the last 10 years, the Autorité des Marchés Financiers has benefited from his rigor and leadership in order to meet the challenges related to the changes in the financial sector”.
