Two have been arrested for the murder of a man

Two men were arrested this Tuesday by the Guardia Civil allegedly responsible for the death of a 40-year-old man this Monday in the town of Jayena (population 1,008) in Granada, 45 kilometers south-west of the capital. The incidents happened after three o’clock in the afternoon when the victim was working on his farm less than two kilometers from the city. Around 3:15 p.m., two cars arrived at the scene, in an area known as Rambla de Calacava or El Saladillo. Two people – three people according to other sources – got out of the vehicles and fired an as yet unspecified number of shots at the victim. The man was fatally injured. Health teams that arrived at the scene found the victim still alive and needed the help of a helicopter, but could do nothing to save him, EFE news agency reports.

At the time of the events, the murdered man was working in the company of other people who observed the events and gave testimony, including a description of those responsible for the shooting of the investigators, which enabled the two men to be arrested quickly. According to sources in the case, the alleged killers are known in the area for their connection to drug trafficking. The court in charge of the case classified the summary as secret, revealing no connection between the alleged killers and the deceased, nor the possible causes of the event.

This Tuesday, one day after the event, the small town is in shock and a good part of the population is silent about it. Jayena Mayor Vanesa Gutiérrez has said the victim has lived in the city “all his life” and is from a “known” family. Gutiérrez (PSOE) has assured that he is not aware that the victim had an argument with these or other people in the city and that what happened was “a serious blow to the community”. The First Mayor, who has offered her condolences to the family of the deceased, has assured that “Jayena is a calm city, which is at this time deeply saddened by the unfortunate event” and that she is “waiting for the investigation to establish the facts.” clarify.” In the city, “we all know each other and it’s difficult to assume what happened,” he concluded.

Following the arrest, the two detainees – whose identity has not been released – are in Civil Guard units awaiting judicial review. The investigations are still open.
