The family of a 17-year-old who was shot multiple times by a San Antonio police officer in a McDonald’s parking lot has revealed their son has pneumonia and has frequent hallucinations.

Erik Cantu was shot up to five times by 25-year-old rookie officer James Brennand while he and a passenger were eating in Cantu’s 2008 BMW 1281 on October 2.

His parents, Erik Cantu Sr. and Victoria Casarez, said he now goes into cardiac arrest when doctors cut back on his painkillers. He also experiences hallucinations in which he mimics stepping on the gas pedal of a car.

Due to his prolonged intubation due to the three-week stay in the intensive care unit, he also suffers from pneumonia.

“These are the things we need to see on a daily basis that no one should see and feel,” Cantu Sr. said.

Cantu is expected to remain in intensive care for at least three more weeks and is still in critical condition.

Civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who has represented the families of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, said the parents were seeking murder charges against Brennand. A civil action is not excluded.

25-year-old rookie San Antonio cop James Brennand shot dead 17-year-old Erik Cantu while he was in his car in a McDonald’s parking lot

Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales reportedly told Cantu’s family that Brennand assumed he was a suspect because he was “a Hispanic kid with a bowl-shaped haircut.”

Crump alleges that Brennand violated Cantu’s Fourth Amendment rights by assuming Cantu stole the vehicle he was driving.

“That’s it,” Crump said. “That’s why we’re here. That’s why (Brennand) shot 10 times.’

The family also revealed that there are more bodycam footage that has not been released to the public.

Recalling the footage, Cantu Sr. added that Cantu called out for his mother and said, “I was shot,” as Brennand handcuffed the wounded teenager.

“Yes, you did because I shot you,” Brennand reportedly replied.

Because Brennand showed “no humanity” in the unreleased footage, in addition to a false allegation by the officer that Cantu hit Brennand with his car, the family are now demanding that his $200,000 bail be lifted.

“No one is safe when they’re out on the street,” Casarez said.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said he believes “no one watching this video questions that the shooting is unjustified” and that the bodycam footage is “terrible” to watch.

Cantu’s passenger was in shock and also feels guilty because it was her decision to go east in front of the fast food restaurant that evening, she told .

Cantu, who she is dating, wanted to eat inside, but she was tired and asked him to use the drive-thru so they could just eat in the car, sources said.

After picking up their order at the window, they parked in the parking lot and listened to music while Cantu took his first bites.

That’s when the police officer spotted the maroon car and allegedly suspected it was stolen.

Police confirmed Cantu’s car had a license plate registered to another vehicle, but have not confirmed if it was stolen.

Brennand abruptly opened the door and motioned for Cantu to come out.

The girl said they were both startled and scared and didn’t understand what happened, sources told .

Brennand’s bodycam recordings show the first encounter.

When Cantu questioned the officer’s orders, he attempted to reverse and the door caught Brennand, who quickly fired several shots into the driver’s side of the vehicle.

Cantu tried to drive away, but Brennand kept firing, firing a total of 10 shots, four or five of which hit the teenager.

The girl heard loud shots as they drove off. Then they stopped a block away.

The girl helped Cantu unbuckle his seat belt and they both got out. Cantu held his wounded arm, unaware that it had been hit somewhere else.

“He thought it was just his arm,” a source said.

Family attorney Brian Powers said Cantu sustained injuries to his stomach, liver, diaphragm, lungs and arms.

He shouted “help” and told her to “call an ambulance,” the source added.

She cradled his head on her lap on the sidewalk. She saw blood coming out of his stomach and also screamed for help.

The officer caught up with them moments later. According to the girl’s account, Brennand tied Cantu’s hands behind his back while he told her to look away.

While it is common for police officers to handcuff a suspect even before providing assistance to avoid potentially unruly behavior, several people close to Cantu told they find it highly inappropriate as the officer is the one who repeatedly shot the unarmed teenager.

They also found it bizarre that he would tell his passenger to look away, regardless of his intention.

Authorities have yet to release the bodycam footage of the handcuffs. They say Brennand performed CPR while waiting for paramedics.

He has since been charged with two counts of aggravated assault by an officer after turning himself in at the Bexar County Jail.

A hearing is scheduled for November 23.

Sadness and fear in Russia as military planes crash into

Sadness and fear in Russia as military planes crash into civilian homes

On the night of October 17, the Ischenko family is said to have sat down to dinner in their apartment on the seventh floor of a block of flats in the southern Russian port city of Yeisk.

But as the family gathered, a Russian Su-34 supersonic plane crashed through their apartment window, sending a huge cloud of fire into the sky. All seven members of the Ischenko family, including three children, were killed.

“After a few phone calls, I thought, let at least one child live,” said Andrei Ischenko, who lost his brother, sister-in-law and their children and grandchildren in the crash. “I was ready to adopt the children if the parents died. But it turned out that way,” he added in an interview with media outlet 7×7

The Yeysk tragedy was just the first of two recent incidents in which Russian warplanes have crashed into civilian areas. Days later on Sunday, a Su-30 jet crashed into a two-story house in Siberia, killing both pilots on board.

The crashes have spread fear and panic in Russia, with some Russians expressing feelings that their country’s invasion of Ukraine is drawing ever closer to home.

“When the incident happened, everyone thought the war had come to our home until we later found out it was a plane crash,” Alan Kachmazov, a resident of Yeysk, told The Moscow Times.

Separated from southern Ukraine by a narrow stretch of the Sea of Azov, Yeysk is home to an air base that served as a launch pad for the Russian Air Force during the invasion of Ukraine.

“Even earlier [the crash]locals worried about planes flying over the city every day,” Kachmasov said.

But the apartment block crash, which killed a total of 15 people and injured 43 others, has prompted some residents to call for answers about the deadliest military incident on Russian soil since the invasion began.

“Well, the grief is over, the guilty are not guilty,” Igor Korenev wrote in a social media post about the Yeysk disaster.

“The planes again circled over residential areas as if the fields and sea were not enough for training purposes. Mistakes teach nothing to those who are not really responsible for them!” Korenev, who hails from the Rostov region in southern Russia, added.

The Department of Defense said the plane crashed due to a malfunction in one of the engines’ ignition systems during takeoff.

The Board of Inquiry, Russia’s equivalent of the FBI, has launched a criminal probe into possible flight rule violations.

Photos of the aftermath of the incident, which drove hundreds of civilians from their homes, showed collapsed walls and mounds of burned rubble.

Just days later, another military jet crashed into the ground in the Siberian city of Irkutsk. While no civilians were injured, the crash killed both pilots, who were reportedly passed out as the plane dove.

Later footage showed a house on fire in central Irkutsk, a city of 600,000, sparking complaints that Russian officials had again failed to protect citizens from the country’s own military jets.

“An uncontrolled plane flew over the city, why was there no warning for residents?” Artyom Valhala from Irkutsk said in a comment on the VKontakte social network.

Eight months after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the clashes, coupled with Moscow’s latest “partial mobilization push,” are reminding many Russians of the war raging on their borders, despite their efforts to get on with their lives.

But in Yeysk, just 60 kilometers across the sea from Russian-held Mariupol, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to ignore the war as jets fly overhead and residents mourn.

“Everyone across the city realized they could easily have been,” Kachmazov said.

Exclusive Twitter loses its most active users internal documents show

Exclusive: Twitter loses its most active users, internal documents show

Oct 25 (Portal) – ‘Is Twitter dying?’ Billionaire Elon Musk mused in April, five days before offering to buy the social media platform.

The reality goes far beyond the handful of examples of celebrities depicting their own accounts as ghosts, according to Twitter’s (TWTR.N) internal Portal research. Twitter is struggling to hold onto its most active users — who are vital to the company — underscoring a challenge Tesla (TSLA.O) chief executive officer faces as he nears a deadline to hit his 44 billion -Complete dollar deal to purchase the company.

These “heavy tweeters” account for less than 10% of total monthly users, but generate 90% of all tweets and half of global revenue. Heavy tweeters have “absolutely decreased” since the pandemic began, wrote one Twitter researcher in an internal document titled “Where Have Tweeters Gone?”.

A “heavy tweeter” is defined as someone who logs on to Twitter six or seven days a week and tweets about three to four times a week, the document said.

The study also found a shift in interests over the past two years among Twitter’s most active English-speaking users that may make the platform less attractive to advertisers.

According to the report, cryptocurrencies and not safe for work (NSFW) content, which includes nudity and pornography, are the fastest growing topics of interest among English-speaking heavy users.

At the same time, these users are losing interest in news, sports and entertainment. Tweets on these topics, which have helped Twitter polish its image as what Musk once called the world’s “digital marketplace,” are also the most sought-after by advertisers.

Twitter declined to say how many of its tweets are in English or how much money it makes from English speakers. But demographics matter to Twitter’s business, some analysts say.

According to its investor letter, the platform generated more ad revenue in the United States alone in the fourth quarter than all other markets combined, and most ads in the United States are likely targeting English-speaking users, said Jasmine Enberg, an analyst at Insider Intelligence.

Twitter’s study looked at the number of frequent tweeters in English who showed interest in a topic based on the accounts they followed and how that number of users has changed over the past two years.

Twitter was motivated to examine “worrying” user trends that may have been obscured by the overall growth in daily active users and to better understand the decline in the company’s most active users, the documents said. The study did not draw any specific conclusions as to why the number of heavy users of the platform is declining.

When asked to comment on the findings of the internal documents, a Twitter spokesman said on Monday: “We regularly conduct research into a variety of trends that are evolving based on what’s happening in the world. Our total audience has continued to grow, reaching 238 million mDAU in Q2 2022,” said the spokesperson, using an acronym for monetizable daily active users.

CONTENT “NOT SAFE FOR WORK”.

The number of heavy users interested in NSFW and cryptocurrency content was growing, according to the research.

Twitter is one of the few major social media platforms to allow nudity on its service, and the company has estimated that adult content accounts for 13% of Twitter, according to a separate internal presentation by Portal. How the number was calculated was not explained in detail in the presentation.

Advertisers generally avoid controversy or nudity for fear of damaging their brands. Major advertisers, including Dyson, PBS Kids and Forbes, have halted their advertising in response to accounts soliciting child pornography on Twitter, Portal reported in September.

In response to the September story, Twitter said it has “zero tolerance for child sexual exploitation” and is investing more resources in its work against such material.

Twitter’s most active English-speaking users also became increasingly interested in cryptocurrencies, hitting an all-time high in late 2021, internal documents showed. But interest in the topic has waned since the crypto price crash in June, and the study noted that cryptocurrencies may not be a growth area going forward.

Current and former Twitter employees who spoke to Portal said they feared Musk’s calls for less content moderation and his reported plans to eviscerate employees, which they said would exacerbate the deterioration in content quality.

“DEVASTATING” LOSSES

Topics that have traditionally made Twitter a popular platform for millions of users are now declining among the most active English-speaking users, the documents show.

Interest in world news, as well as in liberal politics, peaked during major events such as the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. But the categories have since lost the highest number of heavy Twitter users and show no signs of recovery, the report said.

Twitter is also losing a “devastating” percentage of frequent users who are interested in fashion or celebrities like the Kardashian family. Those users are likely to migrate to competing platforms like Meta Platform (META.O)’s Instagram and ByteDance’s TikTok, a Twitter researcher wrote.

The study also expressed surprise at the decline in interest in esports and online streaming personalities, which had previously grown rapidly on Twitter. “The large communities are now in decline,” the report said.

“It seems like there is a significant disconnect between what I would envision as our company values and our growth patterns,” one Twitter researcher wrote.

Bron Breakker holds the "NXT" title

WWE

NXT’s most recent Premium Live Event – Halloween Havoc – took place on October 22nd. Led by Bron Breakker, who was defending the “NXT” Championship in a Triple Threat match against Ilya Dragunov and JD McDonagh, the card was apparently a huge miss at Peacock.

On TwitterWrestling Observer’s Andrew Zarian posted a rather positive statistic for the “NXT” event: “Halloween Havoc was NXT’s most-watched standalone PLE since the Peacock relationship began. By standalone I mean running a weekend where there is no main list PLEASE.”

“NXT” TakeOver In Your House 2021, “NXT” TakeOver 36 and “NXT” WarGames 2021 were the only three standalone premium live events the brand has hosted since the Peacock partnership began in early 2021. Halloween Havoc 2022 can now be added to this list that tops them all.

Zarian also added: “More on Halloween Havoc – Execs have been ‘encouraged’ that additional advertising has helped translate into additional viewership for this PLE. The general attitude towards NXT from NBCU has been very positive over the past few weeks.”

“NXT” officially dropped the “2.0” from its name a few weeks ago as the brand had adopted a new identity as of September 2021. More new development stars were introduced, many of whom didn’t have much professional wrestling experience and were new to the business. This was a massive change from the “NXT” fans were previously familiar with, as “NXT” scheduled takeovers on major event weekends and was associated with WrestleMania and SummerSlam.

“NXT” will have its next Premium Live Event, “NXT” Deadline, on December 10th – the same day as Ring of Honor’s Final Battle pay-per-view. No matches for “NXT” Deadline have been announced yet.

The solar eclipse will take place this Tuesday

A solar eclipse is planned for this Tuesday (25th). That way, part of the world will be able to witness the moon passing in front of the sun in what’s called a partial eclipse. The last thing that happened was in 2022. Unfortunately, this time the Brazilians can only watch the eclipse on TV because it will not pass through Brazil. Therefore, it will be seen in almost all of Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, part of Russia and a small part of Greenland.

Therefore, in the Atlantic, it starts at 6 a.m. and is scheduled to end at 10 a.m. So its peak is scheduled for around 8am. Also, Brazilians passing through any of the mentioned places can take the opportunity to witness a beautiful solar eclipse.

Depending on where the eclipse is observed, it can be more or less intense. So for those who are on the best positioned peak, which in this case is the North Pole, the sun is 82% blocked by the moon. Therefore, there will not be a perfect alignment, which is why it is also known as a partial eclipse. In this way it will be possible to observe a piece of the sun further away, which appears similar to a crescent moon.

For those who will be watching the eclipse in Europe, Africa, and Asia, the sun will appear obscured to varying degrees. For observers from Russia, about 80% of the sun is covered by the moon, while in western China this percentage reaches 70%. In Norway, too, the solar disc will be 63% covered, while in Finland it is expected to be 62%.

When is the next solar eclipse planned?

Solar eclipses typically occur two to five times a year when the Moon passes in front of the Sun as seen from Earth. In addition, they always occur at the new moon phase. So, a total solar eclipse occurs when the sun is completely covered, which happens about every 18 months.

Two solar eclipses are planned for 2023, one that will not be visible in Brazil on April 20th. And the second is scheduled to take place on October 14th and will be witnessed by Brazilians who will have a vision of a kind of ring of fire around the sun.
