The 27-year-old star player was injured in the closing moments of the first quarter of Saturday’s playoff game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He then returned to the locker room for medical attention before returning to end the game, which the Chiefs won 27-20.

“The X-rays were negative. They haven’t diagnosed anything yet, but I’ll be able to play,” Mahomes told NBC after the game.

It was the ESPN network who learned the pivot suffered from a sprain on Sunday.

An ultimatum

Following his ankle injury, Mahomes had a minor falling out with head coach Andy Ried. The quarterback didn’t want to take a break to go to the locker room.

“They gave me an ultimatum and told me that I could not return to the game unless I agreed to return. [au vestiaire]Mahomes tells.

For his part, Reid said that his athlete was “difficult” to convince and that he would not have hesitated to pull him out of the match if he felt it could worsen his health.

Mahomes returned to the fight in the second half. He finished his duel with 22 successful passes in 30 attempts for gains of 195 yards and two touchdowns.

If he had to be absent, it was Chad Henne who took his place behind centre. The substitute led a 98-yard streak that ended in a big major.
