Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Wednesday (3) that Russia “could attack Europe in a few years if its countries do not significantly strengthen their military capabilities.”
Tusk made this statement during a press conference in Warsaw, commenting on the December 29 incident in which, according to the Polish government, a missile fired by Russia hit the country's airspace.
According to the Polish Prime Minister, Moscow may decide to expand its aggression towards the West “if European countries do not draw military consequences from the restructuring of the Russian economy and do not significantly strengthen their militaryindustrial complex.”
“Europe as a whole must be militarily stronger than Russia,” Tusk stressed, adding that “a large part of this country’s productive apparatus is focused on its rearmament.”
He announced this Wednesday that he would “visit the eastern border” of his country “in the near future” to “look for solutions that prioritize the protection of Poles.”
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski on Wednesday called for “tougher sanctions” against Russia and the supply of “longrange missiles to Ukraine so that its army can eliminate launch bases and command centers on its territory.”
After the start of the war in Ukraine, Warsaw accelerated its plans to expand and modernize its army, announcing last year that its defense spending would rise to 4% of gross domestic product (GDP).
Polish President Andrzej Duda confirmed in September that his country would spend more than 30 billion euros on purchasing military equipment in 2024, an amount that he said “impresses the whole world and is intended to ensure that no enemy dares to attack Poland.” ”
