Regina Duarte’s fake news ranges from attacks on Lula to antivaccine posts

Regina Duarte shared fake news on her profile again. The former Globo actress said that the presidential sash used by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) at the inauguration was fake, which is a lie. The information used by Regina was posted by a farright profile and supporter of Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

But it’s not the first time that the “friend from Brazil” has confirmed false reports. Instagram even classified the actress’ profile as a fake news distributor in October 2022.

Attacks on Lula. The fake news about the presidential sash isn’t the first lie about Lula on the actress’ Instagram. She previously shared a manipulated video in which Lula would say that “politicians have to lie”. According to a UOL investigation, the clip circulating on social media is missing the immediately preceding clip, in which Lula refers to Bolsonaro: “I was watching a video of Bozo these days, he, in this video, talking about Venezuelan girl speaks, he speaks verbatim: I have to lie, one has to lie! The politician has to lie!”.

information wrong about Marisa Letícia, former first lady who died in 2017. Bolsonarist networks claimed that the judiciary found BRL 256 million in Lula’s exwife’s accounts the correct amount was BRL 26,000. The difference in value arose after the judge confused the amount Marisa had requested. Profiles supporting Bolsonaro and Regina continued to share the wrong information. Therefore, the judiciary decided that the actress published a revocation notice on her Instagram.

Attacks on the country’s electoral system. The actress backed Bolsonaro’s lines on fraud in the 2022 election, cast doubt on the electronic ballot box and called for the vote to be printed in the country. In one of the publications, Regina shared a video suggesting fraud at a ballot box in an indigenous village in Mato Grosso, where everyone voted for Lula. According to a review by O Estado de São Paulo, the unanimous vote for the candidate in the village did not indicate fraud. Cacique and TSE also confirmed votes.

Questions about the effectiveness of the vaccine against Covid19: Regina has published false information about vaccines against Covid19 at various times, including posts about the harm caused by vaccines approved by Anvisa. For example, in January 2022, she ridiculed the rise in cases of the disease in Israel, a country with a high vaccination rate at the time, prompting a movement by netizens to denounce the actress’ profile.
