Russia Ends Production of Poseidon Warhead, the “Doomsday Torpedo”

Vladimir Putin’s “doomsday torpedo” is ready, with the first Poseidon nuclear warheads, a weapon announced by the Russian government in 2018.

According to the Russian state agency Tass, the information was confirmed this Monday (January 16) by a source in the military industry linked to the Ministry of Defense of Russia. “The first batch of Poseidon ammunition has been made and will soon be delivered to the Belgorod nuclear submarine,” he said.

Unofficial information says that the nuclear warhead is a torpedo about 24 meters long that can pilot itself like a drone.

According to the state authority, several tests were carried out and successfully completed.

Now it is necessary to send the first warheads to the Belgorod submarine, which has been ready since July 2022. The submarine, from which the Poseidon can be transported and launched, can transport nuclear warheads at a speed of 185 km/h to a depth of up to 1,000 meters.

When Putin announced the weapon’s production in 2018, Putin claimed that the warhead would have “unlimited” power, with the ability to operate at depths and speeds unmatched by any other submarine.

With intercontinental capability, the warhead could hit coastal cities around the world, causing dire consequences such as radioactive tsunamis.

After the completion of Poseidon, the “weapon of the apocalypse,” Russia continues to build up its nuclear arsenal and remains at the forefront of countries with more weapons of this type.

According to the Federation of American Scientists (FAS), Russia has 5,977 nuclear warheads, 1,185 of which have intercontinental capacity, 800 of which can be launched from submarines, and 580 nuclear bombs for launching from the air.
