You know the song: The smartphone market is highly competitive. So if a company has a good idea, others will happily imitate it. This is all the more true for Apple, which has the special power to launch fads and trends in this sector. The last example is from Samsung’s One UI 5 interface based on Android 13. In its beta 3, it takes good inspiration from the iOS 16 lock screen.

This is explained by TechDroider in a video posted on YouTube. In the latter we can appreciate a quick introduction to the new One UI 5 beta. If it’s difficult to tax Samsung with the simple dishonorable title of ugly copier, the South Korean giant has seen clearly drawn ideas on the iPhone lock screen by taking advantage of the latest version of iOS.

Let’s say it right away, on this Samsung One UI 5 beta, and unlike iOS 16, no element of the wallpaper goes over the clock. The similarities are more subtle. Let’s start with the time display, which is similar to what you can see on Apple smartphones. And on One UI 5 Beta 3, as on iOS 16, a long press on this module gives you access to the customization options.

In TechDroider’s video, the similarity between the Samsung and Apple interfaces becomes apparent when the videographer holds the two devices side by side.

Samsung One UI 5 improvements

On the other hand, there are two notable elements that Samsung brought to One UI 5 that are not found on iOS 16. On the one hand, with a long press on the lock screen, you can change the opacity of the notifications displayed on the lock screen. On the other hand, the two icons at the bottom of the screen that act as shortcuts can be modified to open the applications of your choice from the locked screen. Previously, this option was only accessible through the settings menu.

The rest of the video also shows a One UI 5 interface that refines the look of its icons to follow Material You’s guidelines. The animations also appear fluid. Finally, remember that Samsung’s beta program is not officially available in France.
