Seinfeld star Peter Crombie has died aged 71 after an illness – actor was known for playing Crazy Joe Davola in the hit sitcom: 'He was loved by everyone'

Seinfeld star Peter Crombie died of an undisclosed illness on Wednesday at the age of 71, TMZ reported.

The Hollywood actor, best known for portraying the character of Crazy Joe Davola in the popular sitcom, died “quickly” as a result of the illness, according to his ex-wife Nadine Kijner.

However, the nature of the illness and other details surrounding his death have yet to be revealed.

Crombie's ex-wife told the outlet: “He was the kindest, most caring, generous and considerate man.” “He was loved by everyone, was generous and never had anything bad to say about anyone.”

A close friend of the late star, Bill Stetz, also commented that Peter was “a gentle and loyal friend of soft words and expressive work as an actor and writer.”

Crombie notably appeared in a total of five episodes in 1992 and 1993 while portraying the character of Crazy Joe Davola on Seinfeld.

The episodes in which he appeared included “The Opera,” “The Watch,” “The Pitch,” and “The Pilot.”

During his time on the series, Davola was an antagonist of Seinfeld and once briefly dated Jerry's close friend Elaine – played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Over the course of his career, Peter took on further roles in film projects such as “My Dog Skip”, “The Blob”, “Natural Born Killers” and also “Se7en”.
