After the person in the vehicle was removed, cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed.

The accident appeared to be accidental, authorities said, but the Motor Vehicle Homicide Unit is on scene and investigating the cause of the accident.

Video of the incident showed several emergency room waiting room chairs being destroyed before the car was pinned in a hallway near a reception desk.

There were mostly no people in the emergency room at the time of the accident, although staff attempted to free one person from the wreckage.

The squealing of car tires can be heard and the taillights are visible as the room fills with white smoke and the car's accelerator appears to still be depressed.

At least eight patients from the hospital's emergency room will be moved elsewhere to ease the burden on staff.

The emergency room is able to accept walk-ins but is closed to ambulances until further notice.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott released a statement to X about the tragedy on Tuesday evening.
