Só Se For Por Amor Recap Netflix Series Starring Lucy Alves

Loved it or hated it, the music genre has always been one of the most profitable in American cinema. Whether in Broadway classics or the Disney model, the genre has been able to immortalize moments in the affective memory of all of us. But he was never very keen on television…at least not until 2009, when Ryan Murphy managed to turn Glee into one of the biggest phenomena in the world. Since 2009, television has opened up to the method and has been able to repeat its success with titles such as Empire (2015), Crazy ExGirlfriend (2015) or Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist (2020). Longevity or not, the market was available.

In Brazil, the debut of Only if it’s for love is commendable. In its musical structure, it plays both in the reformation of popular songs and in the development of original material. And it’s in this musical production (supervised by Patricia Portaro) the legitimacy of the project, which does not have the best credentials in its showrunner: Luciano Patrick he has flaws in his syllabus such as A Vida Secreta dos Casais, a series that wideopens a feuilleton script that gives its characters no movement that is unpredictable.

The good news is that the result can be the comfort food you’d love to enjoy on a pizza and soda night. Nothing that happens in Só Se For Por Amor will sound strange to you, because you’ve seen everything with small variations of scenarios a million times in our soap operas. If we put into perspective that many of our musical references were also organized in this dynamic (Sandy & Jr maybe it was our first big musical series) that Luciano Patrick naturally preferred to stay in his comfort zone. Even when he wants to appear like he’s leaving — by addressing topical issues like homophobia — he’s following a “primer” protocol.

Not for love…

Another great achievement was rock climbing Lucy Alve keeping the ends between the protagonists. She plays Deusa, the lead singer of a band that becomes famous by accident: after the death of a great star in suffering, the band is filmed to pay a tribute that goes viral on the networks and attracts the attention of an industry boss. Everything seems fine until the members of the group realize that only Deusa is being hired, and she and her friend Tadeu (Filipe Braganca) at an impasse, which however serves to cast doubt on even the series title and its romantic flagship. Goddess is the best character because the love she prioritizes is for herself.

However, the rumble of the breakup runs like a bad song through the lengthy six episodes. With the band needing a new singer, the scripts try to balance things by investing in Eva (Agnes Nunes), which is supposed to be “mysterious” but can be tracked down with a minute’s thought. The plot of Just If It’s For Love is absolutely recurring and no one involved in the series is even interested in surprising you as even the surprises come down to the weary “who is the son of whom” or “who is in love with” based on that”. It’s even impossible not to draw a comparison Rensga hitswhich has very similar operating principles but uses them more efficiently.

Only when the songs appear does everything have its justification. In addition to good versions of hits from Anitta, Pablo Vittar, Chitaozinho and Xororo, between others; The musical direction also knows how to keep the fans of the sertanejo affliction attentive, who were delighted by the disclosure of the synopsis. The original songs have been carefully produced and do not differ from what has been achieved with previously known (and therefore immediately more charismatic) ones. For fans of this style of music, the series (which the creators claim is not a musical because it does not contain sung dialogue) will be a fullfledged record.

The final episode hints at a huge possibility for a second season, but it’s unlikely to address any weaknesses. The series is for everyone who wants the comfort of an 80’s “Melo”. Worth watching… only if it’s about love.
