Social Media Addiction: How to Recognize It

Social networks and cell phones are part of everyday life for all citizens. We spend hours and hours in them and on many occasions something like this happens. Dependence leading to addiction.

This is how they affect our physical and mental health, especially for the little ones:

  • Self-esteem. The use of filters from different platforms. Young people look for beauty standards that don't reflect reality and take photos in which they don't even look like themselves. This creates a lack of self-esteem.
  • emotional regulation. In moments of boredom or sadness, they turn to social networks and are therefore unable to cope with these situations themselves. If they don't have a phone or social media, they become destabilized.

  • Having problems personal relationships. Today's relationships are primarily virtual. The contact is no longer physical. You can say “I love you,” but you don’t give hugs. It is superficial relationships that desensitize minors.

How are these types of addictions addressed?

Thanks to psychologist Paloma Díez, who visited the set of And Now Sonsoles, we were able to learn that this type of addiction is overcome in two phases.
