Switzerland and Ukraine plan peace summit news

Switzerland and Ukraine want to organize a peace summit at the highest level. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Swiss President Viola Amherd announced this yesterday in Bern. Both sides wanted to start planning immediately. Initially there was no date for the meeting.

An invitation to Russia is not planned, as Zelenskyy indicated. All countries that support Ukraine's territorial integrity would be invited, he said. Russia launched a war of aggression against Ukraine in February 2022 and occupied large areas of land in the east and south.

The format of such a summit would follow the four Peace Formula conferences that have taken place since spring 2023 in Denmark, Saudi Arabia, Malta and on Sunday in Davos. 83 countries and international organizations were involved in Davos, but not China.

Continuation of the trip to Davos

The plan addresses the basic requirements for peace, which Kiev has formulated into a ten-point plan. These include, among other things, Russia's withdrawal from all parts of the country, punishments for Russian war criminals, and reparations.

Zelenskyy travels from Bern to Davos. There he participates in the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF). Yesterday, Chinese Premier Li Qiang paid tribute to the Swiss government. Li Qiang and Zelenskyy are among the conference's most important guests.
