A Montrealer was fined nearly $80,000 for not declaring all of his rental income.
Shah Allam Mohammed Molla, 47, pleaded guilty to evading the payment of taxes on part of his income for 2019 and 2020 and was sentenced on December 13.
The man, who co-owns a dozen rental properties in the greater Montreal area, was fined $79,566.
“According to the investigation conducted by Revenu Québec, Mr. Molla made false statements by deducting nearly a quarter of a million dollars from his rental income. In doing so, he evaded paying the tax related to that sum,” the Quebec tax office said in a press release.
