Pop star Taylor Swift urged her followers to vote on Super Tuesday (5), a key day in the US primaries, without expressing support for a specific candidate.
Swift, one of today's most influential celebrities, in 2020 supported the campaign of Democrat Joe Biden, currently in the White House, who could run again against Republican former President Donald Trump in November's presidential election.
“Today, March 5th, the presidential primaries are taking place in Tennessee and 16 other states and territories,” Swift wrote in an Instagram post, referring to the state where she spent much of her youth.
“I wanted to remind you guys to vote, to choose the person who best represents YOU. IF you haven’t already, plan to vote today,” the multiGrammywinning artist said.
“Whether you are in Tennessee or elsewhere in the United States, check your voting locations and times at vote.org,” he added on Instagram, a network where he has 282 million followers.
In September last year, Swift encouraged her fans To to vote, which resulted in tens of thousands of requests following her message.
The 34yearold artist's political stance has been the subject of intense scrutiny throughout her career and she has been criticized for not speaking publicly on the issue for years, including during the 2016 election won by Trump.
In 2018, she broke her silence by announcing her support for Tennessee's Democratic Senate candidate against farright Sen. Marsha Blackburn. Since then, Swift has publicly spoken out in support of abortion rights and the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community and has repeatedly criticized Trump.
In the last election, she openly supported Biden's candidacy in opposition to the Republican tycoon.
Trump, 77, is the favorite for his party's nomination and will likely face Biden, 81, who is seeking a second term.
