The 45-year-old husband is sentenced to life in prison for the kidnapping, rape and attempted murder of his ex-wife

A twisted man has been sentenced to life in prison for kidnapping and raping his ex-wife while he held her hostage for two days during a campaign of appalling abuse.

Trevor Steven Summers, 45, has been sentenced to life in prison in Hillsborough County, Fla., on all 11 charges against him – after being cross-examined at his own trial.

During the trial, Summers represented himself and posed a series of taunting questions to his former wife, Alisa Mathewson, who has accused him of violence and sexual assault.

The ex-wife said Summers, with whom she shares five children, assaulted and raped her in her sleep after breaking into her home on March 11, 2017.

Among other things, Summers was found guilty of two counts of attempted first-degree murder – for smothering his ex-wife with a pillow until she was unconscious and strangling her with a rope.

When asked by her abusive ex-husband if he forced her to have sex with him, Mathewson told the court, “They broke into my house in the middle of the night when I was sleeping, assaulted me and tied me up!”

“I’ll take that as yes, you threatened me to have sex with you! Yes!’

The ex-wife held back her feelings, adding: “Before you had sex you pushed me, you held me down, you tied me up, you attacked me and you broke into my house when I was sleeping!” You raped me!’

The defendant then asked, “So you call it rape?”

She replied: “It is. That’s the definition of rape, coming into someone’s house and assaulting them and tying them up and then having sex with them! That is the definition of rape.”

After Summers entered the house, he sent the kids to his own property and tied Summers’ wrists and ankles with scarves – before putting a sock in her mouth and wrapping her whole body in nylon rope, she claims.

The court heard he then tied her to the bed frame with Christmas lights.

The ex-husband then allegedly tried to kill her by smothering her with a pillow until she passed out.

During cross-examination, Summers asked Mathewson if they ever used scarves during their sexual activity – as she claims he tied her up that way during the rape and assault for which he is on trial.

She replied: “I don’t remember a single case. I don’t remember any.”

During the horrifying two-day ordeal in 2017, the screaming Mathewson was tied up and forced into a car while her ex-husband drove across several counties.

She once tried to flee while he was stopped in a Walgreens parking lot, but he forced her back into the vehicle and cut one of her wrists as punishment.

A Walgreens employee witnessed the ordeal and called 911 at the time.

He then took her to a field in Manatee County, Florida to hide from law enforcement – but the kidnapper ran out of food and water. He also wanted to take her on a chartered boat, but he put her in a “safe house” instead.

After a fight in the car, Summer started strangling his ex-wife with a rope, but Mathewson was able to get rid of him even though her hands were tied.

At that moment, the kidnapped ex-wife spotted a police car.

Upon seeing the unmarked police car, Summers took the same razor blade he used to slit her wrist and began slitting her own throat, saying, “This is love. I give my life for you You didn’t deserve that.’

Mathewson recalled the bloody ordeal – and said she asked the defendant to stop it.

He said he would cut her ropes, but she was able to free her hand from the loop as police surrounded the car.

She testified: “And at that point, law enforcement surrounded the vehicle. My door opened. I was grabbed and taken out.’
