The actress, who “stood in a bikini for 10 hours” on Home and Away with no dialogue, reveals how much extras REALLY make on Australian soaps
A little-known actress has revealed how much extras really make on Australian soap operas.
During Wednesday’s Fitzy & Wippa show, a listener named Sophie told radio hosts that she once made $350 in a day simply by standing around on the set of Home and Away in a bikini and saying nothing.
The woman told Michael “Wippa” Wipli, 42, that she wore the swimsuit “for about 10 hours today in Palm Beach in the middle of winter.”

It comes after Britain’s Channel 5 confirmed Home And Away was safe from cancellation after they axed other Australian soap neighbors after 37 years on the air.
Program director Ben Frow said the show is on a lifetime contract, so it will only be canceled if the creators want it to.
“It’s a lifetime deal, so it’s not going anywhere until the creators decide to cancel it,” Ben told the Radio Times last week.
He continued, “I think it will be interesting to see what we do with it as we move forward. There might be another place to put it in the 5 spectrum.’
When asked about the decision to ax Neighbors after 38 seasons, Frow said it was a business decision and the money will be used for other opportunities.

“I could spend the money on other things, and that’s what I’ve chosen to do. I’m better off spending the neighbors’ money on shows in the UK,” Frow explained.
Home And Away has been on the air for 34 years and has always competed with Neighbors, which has been on the air for 37 years.
Both shows were incredibly successful and the starting point for so many young actors such as Chris Hemsworth, Margot Robbie and Russell Crowe.

Channel 5 announced they would stop airing Neighbors in February, a few months before the finale, which aired on Friday 29 July.
Many celebrities went back to their roots to honor the series’ final installment, including Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, who starred as couple Charlene and Scott Robinson.
However, there was a backlash on social media on the night as Kylie and Jason shared few lines of dialogue.
