The Argentine Vice President takes over her defense in Causa Vialidad

On August 22, prosecutor Diego Luciani sought a 12-year prison sentence for the former president and her permanent ban from public office for alleged irregularities in the allocation of 51 works in Santa Cruz province between 2003 and 2015.

On Monday and Tuesday of this week, the attorneys for Senate Chairman Carlos Alberto Beraldi and Ary Llernovoy pointed out the lack of evidence against Fernández and uncovered violations in the trial.

At the beginning of his speech, Beraldi assured that the lawsuit against the Vice President had been upheld “according to the testimony of more than 100 witnesses, experts, accountants and engineers in almost three years of hearings”.

Truth always triumphs and that’s what happened here. The allegation has been shown to lack credibility and basis, he claimed during his presentation via digital platforms to judges Jorge Gorini, Andrés Basso and Rodrigo Giménez.

He also accused prosecutors of misconduct and committing “an unusual arbitrariness unparalleled in this country or the world,” noting that Fernández was subpoenaed for eight preliminary statements that same day.

The irregularities were not only aimed at Dr. Fernández or this defense, but turned across all borders against her family, especially her daughter, who never engaged in any political activity but was stigmatized and attacked, which damaged her health, he said.

On the other hand, he pointed out that several media outlets were spreading false information and claimed that prosecutors had evidence that did not exist.

The lawyer recalled that according to the testimony of President Alberto Fernández and other witnesses, the allocation of public works posts is the power of Congress over the budget.

Likewise, Beraldi and Llernovoy assured that the facts analyzed had already been negotiated and dismissed in Santa Cruz.

On the other hand, he denounced the links between Luciani, Judge Giménez and former President Mauricio Macri, on whose property they played football.
