Elias Pettersson, who still hasn't renewed his contract with the Vancouver Canucks, could have changed his address, which would have caused quite a stir.
At least that's what Sportsnet's hockey informant Elliotte Friedman revealed on Thursday. The British Columbia team and the Carolina Hurricanes have reportedly had very serious discussions about the 25-year-old forward.

“According to multiple sources, the Vancouver Canucks and Carolina Hurricanes had discussions regarding Elias Pettersson that reached a point where the Canucks and the player had to make serious decisions about the direction of their relationship,” Friedman wrote.
However, the Canucks have decided to try their luck again and extend their star's contract. For his part, Pettersson would have authorized his agents to resume talks with the team.
On this topic, Frank Seravalli, the hockey informant for the website Daily Faceoff, wrote on X on Wednesday evening that the two camps were close to agreeing on the terms of an eight-year contract.
As a reminder, the current contract of the fifth overall pick in the 2017 draft, which is worth $7.35 million per year, expires at the end of this season. In 2023-2024, Pettersson recorded 29 goals and 46 assists for 75 points in 61 games.
