Poland has delivered four Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, the first modern main battle tanks to arrive in the country since the start of the invasion of Russia, which will end a year this Friday (24).

“Dear soldiers, we brought the first four leopards from Poland for you in order to drive out the Russian aggressor as soon as possible. Thank you for your courage,” said Mateusz Morawiecki, Prime Minister of Poland.

Footage released by the Ukrainian government’s press service showed Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov and Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki with members of the Ukrainian and Polish Defense Forces in front of Leopard 2 tanks at a location that was not disclosed.

Poland announced last month that it would reduce the training period for Ukrainian soldiers in Leopard 2 tanks to five weeks.

Morawiecki also called for a stronger package of EU sanctions against Russia. The EU is currently discussing a 10th round of sanctions.
