American actress Da'Vine Joy RandDolph, who recently won top awards for her supporting role in “The Holdovers,” said on Sunday that she would rather not imagine receiving an Oscar.

The 37-year-old actress, who recently won a Golden Globe, a Critics Choice Award, a Bafta and other honors, appears well-positioned to pick up the Oscar for best supporting actress in two weeks.

“I don’t take anything for granted. Honestly, that's the case with the Oscars. I'm just happy about the invitation. Nothing more, nothing less,” she told AFP on Sunday backstage at the independent film Spirit Awards in Santa Monica, California.

In American director Alexander Payne's The Holdovers, she plays a cook and a grieving mother stuck in an English school during the Christmas holidays.

“It was a surreal and powerful time for me to see my dreams gradually come true,” she says.

“The Holdovers” is nominated for five Oscars, including best picture and best actor for Paul Giamatti, who plays a professor.

The French film “Anatomy of a Fall” won best international film and “American Fiction” won best screenplay in Santa Monica on Sunday.

Films with a budget of more than $30 million (€27.7 million) will not be selected for the Spirit Awards for independent films. This is one of the rare ceremonies where Christopher Nolan's film “Oppenheimer” didn't win any awards.
