Thunder Bay: Woman killed after unanswered 911 calls –

Thunder Bay police found themselves in the crosshairs of Ontario's police watchdog for allegedly twice ignoring 911 calls reporting a domestic violence case that ended in the death of a 21-year-old woman.

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said in a statement posted on its website Wednesday that it is investigating the Thunder Bay police's role in the death of a woman on the night of Dec. 29-30.

According to the SIU, police received an initial call around 2 a.m. reporting a dispute at a residence on Ray Boulevard.

911 was then called again to cancel the first call.

In both cases, no police were on site to ensure everything was OK, the SIU noted.

It was only after a third call to 911 reporting the victim's death that police decided to go to the home.

The SIU has not released any further details about its investigation, including what caused the 21-year-old woman's death or whether a suspect has been arrested.

For their part, Thunder Bay Police had not reported this incident in any way before it was uncovered by the SIU. The police, for their part, told the media TBnewswatch that they were continuing their investigation into the woman's death and would not reveal any further details given the SIU's involvement in the matter.
