Buenos Aires.- The city of La Plata hosts a new day of trials today for crimes against humanity committed in secret centers in the province of Buenos Aires during Argentina’s last military dictatorship (1976-1983).

The Federal Oral Court 1 of this territory will hear the testimonies of relatives of people who were held, tortured and murdered in the wells of Banfield, Quilmes and the Lanús Brigade, which is part of the Buenos Aires Police Department.

The trial, which first went to trial in 2012, charges 18 defendants with illegal deprivation of liberty, use of torture, skilled homicide, sexual abuse and abduction, restraint and concealment of a minor.

The trial is taking place as part of a long struggle by the organization Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo, citizens separated from their parents as children, and survivors of the “Night of the Pencils,” among others.

Among those who will testify today are Marta Enseñat and Valentín Ríos, companions and son of Miguel Ríos, a Uruguayan kidnapped on December 23, 1977.

Alfredo and Francisco, brother and son of José Luis D’Alessio, who were arrested and disappeared that same year, will also testify.
