Twin Cities Target evacuated after woman enters and smashes objects with golf clubs

Police say a woman left a path of destruction at Twin Cities Target Tuesday morning, scattering objects and ruining food throughout the store.

A woman entered West St. Paul Target at 1750 Robert St. S. shortly before 9:45 a.m., according to the city police department, and an 911 caller said she was “thrashing” the store. The woman was reportedly walking through the store and seemingly at random throwing and damaging merchandise.

At one point, she even used golf clubs to smash objects and fixtures all over the Target, police said.

On-site managers, concerned about the safety of customers and staff, began evacuating the store. When the police arrived, they found a woman in the electronics department who was still “actively vandalizing property”.

Officers arrested her, and according to the West Saint Paul Police Department, she is in the process of being imprisoned in the Dakota County Jail. She may face criminal liability for damage to property.

“At this point, the cause of the suspect’s explosion is unknown,” police said, adding that no bystanders were hurt.

The store is currently closed as Target employees clean up the aftermath. The police also thanked store managers and asset protection officers for their quick actions in evacuating the store and passing information to the department.
