Unfit to drive: She leaves her passenger and flees

A 22-year-old drunk driver who allegedly fled the scene after going off the road in Amos was arrested after her injured passenger, who stayed behind, told police everything.

At around 5:15 a.m. Sunday, police officers from the Abitibi MRC station were called to drive a passenger to Route 109 North in Amos with minor injuries.

On the spot, however, they found no trace of the driver, who, according to the passenger, had fled after the accident.

However, the driver, a young woman of 22, was quickly located and transported to the station for a breathalyser test.

“The results showed rates more than double the legal limit,” the Surete du Québec (SQ) said in a news release on Friday.

The young woman’s driver’s license was revoked and her vehicle confiscated, and she could face charges of drunk driving, hit and run, injuries and possession of narcotics.

However, she is not the only one who should be prosecuted for being unfit to drive: just 10 hours later, a 41-year-old man was intercepted by officers from the Abitibi Police Station while driving a vehicle that also exceeded the alcohol limit.

The 40-year-old, who was initially arrested in connection with an investigation into the sale of contraband cigarettes, showed signs of alcohol impairing his abilities.

“He was arrested and taken to the police station to be breathalysed,” SQ said.

Contraband cigarettes were also confiscated from his vehicle.

He could be charged with drunk driving and charged under the Tobacco Tax Act.
