Uruguayan institutions against child violence summoned

Montevideo. In view of the incidents and killings against minors, the Uruguayan Ministry of the Interior today convened several state institutions to coordinate measures against child violence.

Summoned today are the Ministry of Social Development, the Supreme Court, the Attorney General's Office, the Institute for Children and Adolescents of Uruguay, the National Administration of Public Education and the Administration of State Health Services.

The meeting will take place this Tuesday and, according to MI, its aim is to “coordinate actions regarding the situation of children in vulnerable contexts, in particular due to the relationship of those responsible with crime”.

The meeting comes after the murder of a two-year-old child in Canelones department last Thursday, in which his father died and two other small children were injured by gunfire.

In addition, last weekend another 10-year-old boy was injured and burned in Rivera, and last month an eight-year-old child died in a shooting attack in Malvín Norte in that capital.
