Our Cassandras

The extraordinary journey of Dr. Joanne Liu, the former international president of Doctors Without Borders, is the focus of the piece Nos Cassandre. Actress Jade Barshee lends her voice and face to this Quebecois who traveled the world to treat the sick in countries affected by war and epidemics. A moving piece that unfolds without artifice, but in which we feel that revolt and helplessness coexist in the heart of this convinced woman. Until February 3rd at Espace Libre.

Tupac, RZA, Erykah Badu, Wyclef Jean, Lauryn Hill, Ol' Dirty Bastard… T. Eric Monroe immortalized them all. One of hip-hop culture's most respected photographers is presenting some of his work for the first time in Quebec as “Rare and Unseen Moments of 90's Hip Hop” is on display at pop-up boutique VerdunLuv until FEBRUARY 4. Banartmann, a visual art consultancy with a focus on urban art, is behind the exhibition, which “tells a visual story captured through the artist's lens before the digital age.” To mark the occasion, a limited edition photo of Tupac Shakur is on offer. There is a chance to meet the American photographer on Saturday, January 27th between 1 and 5 p.m. This is followed by an evening with DJ at P2 (4847 Wellington Street).

Until February 2nd at 3804 Rue Wellington

“In this free adaptation of Martin Amis's choral novel, Jonathan Glazer masterfully exploits the power of the off-camera and is interested in the peaceful everyday life of a German family living next to the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp,” writes our journalist Manon Dumais.

“In this magnificent script signed with Sarah Kaminsky, Laetitia Colombani manages to ensure that we are simultaneously entertained, touched, educated and captivated by her film. His camera is very close to his female characters, whose psyches we discover both through their actions and their appearance,” writes our journalist Marrisa Groguhé.
