José Augusto (Renan Monteiro) appeared for the first time in Renascer this week and will tell João Pedro (Juan Paiva) in this Wednesday's chapter (21) that his wife cheated on him. But the doctor actually has many other secrets. In the next chapters of Globo's nine o'clock soap opera, doctor Bento (Marcello Melo Jr.) will reveal that he has not only failed in his marriage, but is also at risk of losing his medical license. What's more: José Inocêncio's (Marcos Palmeiras) firstborn is also infertile.
Augusto's infertility is a new feature of the remake. In the 1993 version, the character played by Marco Ricca did not deal with this topic, but the other dramas are all original. This means that José Augusto will be under even more pressure in 2024 because he could not live up to his father's expectations.
“Because he is the oldest, he has a more fond memory of his mother, he remembers more. When his mother died, he was a little older and was left with the responsibility of looking after his brothers. And that was there too.” His father’s demand that he have to study, get a degree, become a doctor. He took it very seriously and that's what he did. He's a doctor, he has a practice in Salvador, but he keeps asking himself: “What's the point of all this?” I graduated, I'm a doctor and my father doesn't pay me any attention, he doesn't give me any affection. “So he starts the soap opera with these conflicts coming to the surface,” Renan Monteiro said TV news at the time of the series' release.
In 1993, Augusto's wife did not appear in the story. Everything can change in the current version, but so far there is no actress to bring the character to life. Augusto will tell Bento that his wife cheated on him several times while he was working and that, alerted by neighbors, he hired a detective to find evidence against her.
After being pressured, the woman blamed him for the betrayal, claimed she was too alone and said she would not give up part of the apartment and the clinic. Not only does he have to share half of his fortune with his exwife, but he also has to deal with an investigation into a patient's death that could lead to his registration being revoked. In 1993, Augusto suffered this punishment due to the death of a child.
Infertility was added into the story to modernize the plot. In the original version, José Augusto got involved with Buba (Gabriela Medeiros) after the death of Venâncio (Rodrigo Simas) and the “blame” for not giving José Inocêncio grandchildren fell on the character, who was intersex in 1993. In the current soap opera, the impossibility will also be that of the doctor.
“The father is dying to have a grandson and this is another frustration for him because he cannot be a father. He is hiding this and also not saying that he had a problem and that his registration was revoked,” the actor said.
At 37, Renan Monteiro didn't have much time to prepare much. He was on the air with Reis, on Record, until December and didn't start recording until January, when he finished working on the competition. However, the actor did not want to give any insight into what Marco Ricca did 31 years ago.
“I'm a big fan of his. I have already made a film with Marquinho from Cacá Diegues. But I think it's a different family, right? Now it's a black family. Renascer was written and created by author Benedito Ruy Barbosa. The first version was broadcast on Globo in 1993. Bruno Luperi is the writer's grandson and is responsible for the adaptation of the rural saga, which premiered in prime time in January. The remake will air until September.
