Why every Australian will benefit from superstar Taylor Swift coming Down Under for her sell-out Eras Tour

Taylor Swift will land in Australia in February to perform seven sold-out shows in Sydney and Melbourne, with sales expected to reach hundreds of millions.

The 34-year-old pop star's Australian tour will benefit many Australians in unexpected ways, with die-hard Swifties spending big on costumes and accessories for her show.

“Spending on fashion and craft supplies in the run-up to the concert is in addition to normal visitor spending,” a representative from economist Deloitte told Nine.

They added that Australian Swifties, excited to see their idol live, will spend a staggering $220 million.

“We believe this visitor spending figure is a conservative figure given the higher-than-average costs of flights and accommodation,” the spokesperson added.

In addition to the millions of dollars spent on tickets, interstate fans will spend a lot of money traveling to a show, booking hotels, purchasing food and drinks, accessories, etc.

This means working Australians across a range of industries are set to benefit once Swift arrives Down Under next month.

An estimated $126 million has already been spent by fans on concert tickets, and along with the additional $220 million, Australians are spending a whopping $346 million on Swift's 2024 Eras tour in Australia.

Meanwhile, hotel bosses say advance bookings for their rooms have reached an unprecedented high as Swifties reserve them months in advance.

“Demand for rooms on Swift’s February 2024 tour dates currently exceeds demand for many traditional major events in Melbourne,” an Accommodation Australia spokesperson told Nine.

It follows reports in November that fans took drastic measures to secure tickets to Swift's Australian Eras Tour.

Thousands of new seats for their Australian shows were released by Ticketek in November, with Swifties in Sydney and Melbourne clamoring for a place in the queue.

Queues at Ticketek box offices in Melbourne and Sydney stretched around the block, with many fans camped out with sleeping bags and lounge chairs while others waited patiently on the online Ticketek website.

Swift will become the first artist since Madonna to perform three consecutive concerts at the Melbourne Cricket Ground when she takes the stage in February next year, and the first ever to play a fourth consecutive show at Sydney's Accor Stadium.

The new performances complement existing Melbourne concerts on February 16, 17 and 18 and Sydney shows on February 23, 24, 25 and 26.
