WM: Gregg Berhalter warns ‘the job is NOT done’ after England’s end

Gregg Berhalter admits the USMNT is “proud” after losing to England at the World Cup but warns that “the job is NOT done” as his side need a win against Iran in their final group game to progress

USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter said he was “proud” of his side after they secured a 0-0 draw with world No. 5 England but knows they are yet to achieve anything.

USA impressed against the Three Lions and arguably had the better chance when Christian Pulisic slammed a goal off the bar in a thrilling affair at the World Cup in Qatar.

They secured a shutout against a team that beat Iran in Monday’s Group B opener, but with two points from two games, Berhalter warned “the work isn’t done yet”.

But he warned that “the work is not done yet” as three points are needed in the final group game next week

“I think both teams worked hard, both teams struggled at times and are generally happy with their performance,” said Berhalter after the game.

“Any time you can get a shutout at a World Cup, that’s a good thing.

“I would like to see goals from set pieces.

“We are proud, but our work is not done yet. We have to win on Tuesday.

“We know five points will get us and we have to focus on those five points.”

The USA are third in Group B after two draws in as many games, but a win over Iran on Tuesday at 2pm EST would be enough for the nation to advance to the knockout stages.

Berhalter’s side meet Iran, who will be full of confidence after a surprise 2-0 win over Wales on Friday.

England leads the group with four points, Iran is third with three points and Wales bottom with one point.

England and Wales begin at the same time as the USA clash with Iran as Group B progress to the final.
