Woman chokes to death in Japan for drowning two men

The woman who allegedly owed money to the victims of her crimes was being held in the Hiroshima Detention Center; his death sentence was handed down in 2017

An inmate awaiting execution for killing two men died Saturday (14) after choking on her own food, Japan’s Justice Ministry reported Sunday (15).

According to the Japanese news agency Kyodo, 49yearold Miyuki Ueta was sentenced to death in October 2009 in the Tottori region for drugging, robbing and drowning a truck driver and an electronics store owner. His death sentence was imposed in 2017.

The woman, who allegedly owed money to the victims of her crimes, was being held in Hiroshima Detention Center. The cause of death was confirmed by an outside doctor who examined his body.

More than 100 Japanese are awaiting the death penalty

After Ueta’s death, 105 people with final death sentences remain detained in Japan, the Japan Justice Ministry added.

In July, Tomohiro Kato, a 39yearold former office worker, was the only one executed in 2022. The man was sentenced to death for killing seven and injuring 10 others during a riot in Tokyo’s Akihabara district in 2008.
