TRIBUNE – A teacher at Hamline University in Minnesota has been fired after showing her class medieval paintings of the Prophet Muhammad. The associate professor and lecturer denounces the victory of Islamist iconoclasm and recalls that the French university is also subject to community pressure.

Xavier-Laurent Salvador is Associate Professor of Modern Literature and Lecturer in Medieval Language and Literature. He is co-director of the Observatory on Decolonialism and Identity Ideologies, which has a website: decolonialisme.fr.

Act One of a Drama: Inside the private Hamline University of Saint Paul, Minnesota, Mark Berkson’s assistant – Dean of the Department of Religious Anthropology – presented an image of an Islamic to students during their online class on Islamic Art 14th-century calendar depicting Gabriel’s announcement to Muhammad. The professor had previously taken care to apologize for the offensiveness of the image and to meet a deadline for the students concerned to turn off the video of the lecture. The aim was to denounce the idea that there is only one Islamic bloc that has unanimously agreed to condemn prophetic portrayals.
