Biden’s executive order and armed violence, prominent US issues

Washington, Feb. 18 (Prensa Latina) The executive order signed by President Joe Biden to address persistent racial inequality in the United States and armed violence is among the issues highlighted by the press this week ending.

The country’s various media outlets on Thursday repeated the news of the Federal Government’s Further Advancement of Racial Equality and Assistance to Underserved Communities Decree.

The executive order, signed by the Democratic president, aims to “remove systemic barriers that prevent communities of color from thriving,” he said in a statement.

This is Biden’s second initiative in this direction, since on his first day in office two years ago he signed Executive Order 13985, which historically allocated funds to schools and universities for African American students.

Biden’s new regulation requires agencies to create an annual public equity action plan that assesses the barriers facing underserved communities and allegedly offers solutions to access policies and programs, The Hill newspaper reported.

The gun violence issue made headlines this week with the shooting on the night of February 13 at Michigan State University that left three students dead and five in critical condition.

Just two days later, on February 15, one person was killed and several injured while a shootout also ensued.

at a mall in El Paso, Texas.

The tragedy happened very close to the Walmart establishment, which was the scene of a mass shooting in 2019 that killed 23 and injured nearly two dozen.

Meanwhile, six people died yesterday in a series of gun incidents in Tate County, Mississippi.

In addition, other information on impact included monitoring tensions between the United States and China, which had escalated following the accidental entry of an investigative balloon shot down by Pentagon fighter jets.

Similarly, last week, the possible environmental impact in Ohio after a train carrying toxic substances derailed in the community of East Palestine – following a media silence – attracted attention, leading to the evacuation of about two thousand residents from that area.
