Calista Flockhart has opened up as she addressed previous anorexia rumors that surrounded her during her starring role on the hit series All McBeal.
The 59-year-old Golden Globe winner, who recently showed off her chic sense of style on Good Morning America, spoke about how the speculation affected her in an interview with The New York Times on Friday.
The star told the outlet: “I was an easy target, I guess.” It was painful, it was complicated. “I loved working on Ally McBeal and this just pissed it off.”
“I was very sleep deprived and depressed because of it. “I thought it would ruin my career,” Flockhart admitted.
“I didn’t think anyone would ever hire me again because they would just assume I had anorexia and that would be the end of it.”

Calista further recalled: “I had days where I was really hurt, embarrassed and angry.” “I was lucky that I had to work.”
She explained that she decided to shrug off the rumors and stay positive. “I just kept my head down. I always felt like, “Calista, you’re a good person, you’re not mean to anyone,” and I’m confident in that.”
The actress also told the publication that she felt that the situation of the past would not happen in the present.
“They're calling it body shaming now.” “I haven't thought about it in a long time, but it's really not okay to accuse someone of having an illness that many people struggle with.”
Flockhart added: “When I look back at pictures, I'm the same then as I am now, and no one says a word now.”
She also explained that her weight was always within the healthy range given her own height of around 1.75 meters.
Calista then explained, “My mother is now 4 to 11 years old and weighed 43 pounds when she was married.” Talk about a tiny little elf. “I only have small bones and I’m just lucky.”
The actress has made comments about her weight in the past, including in an interview with People when she was working on Ally McBeal in 1998.

“I don’t think I know the exact definition of anorexia,” she told the publication at the time.
“But I eat. I eat normally. I eat what I want, when I want. I don't have a bad relationship with food… Am I anorexic? I guess my answer would have to be no.'
She also explained that she has been focusing on eating healthier and cutting out junk food, and that the star hasn't stuck to her usual workout routine due to longer work days.
“I think my body changed from a muscular body to a softer body in the process. I'm not saying people don't see what they see.”
“If I did that, it would be a sign that I'm crazy.” I'm just saying that it's normal weight fluctuations. “I don't look in the mirror that often, but when I do, I have to say: No, I don't think I'm too skinny,” Calista said.
From 1997 to 2002, Flockhart starred in the title role in the critically acclaimed legal comedy.
The hit show notably received both the Golden Globe and the Emmy during its broadcast. It was already announced in 2022 that a reboot for Ally McBeal was also in the works.
Calista, who is currently married to fellow actor Harrison Ford, remains active in the industry. Her most recent project is Feud: Capote vs. The Swans.

The FX/Hulu limited series is set to premiere later this month on January 31 and also stars Naomi Watts, Diane Lane, Chloe Sevigny, Demi Moore, Molly Ringwald and Tom Hollander.
The official premise goes like this: “Acclaimed writer Truman Capote (Tom Hollander) surrounded himself with a circle of society's most elite women – rich, glamorous socialites who defined a bygone era of New York high society – whom he called “the swans.” called.
“Enchanted and fascinated by these doyennes, Capote nestled himself into their lives, befriended them and became their confidant, only to ultimately betray them by writing a thinly veiled fictionalization of their lives and revealing their most intimate secrets…”
The show is based on the book titled “Capote's Women: A True Story of Love, Betrayal, and a Swan Song for an Er” written by Laurence Leamer.
Flockhart portrayed the role of Lee Radziwill, Jacqueline Kennedy's sister, and spoke about her role on Good Morning America earlier this week.
“She was a pretty amazing woman. She was a New York socialite. She was in top form. She was a fashion icon. She was rich. She was a princess. She was raised to marry well and to marry the right man, a rich man.'

Calista added: “I think she lived in her sister's shadow and was therefore a woman who spent much of her life searching for her own identity, which she found in various ways. 'She was intelligent.'
And earlier this month, the star notably attended the Critics Choice Awards with her husband Harrison Ford – and received the Career Achievement Award.
While Harrison tearfully accepted the award on stage, he also paid a loving tribute to Calista, with whom he tied the knot in 2010.
“I want to thank my lovely wife,” he said emotionally. “She supports me when I need a lot of support and I need a lot of support.”
The star also added: “I'm really excited to be here tonight to see how our business develops and all the talented people getting opportunities that probably wouldn't have existed when I started my career.”

“I'm very happy about that.” I'm here because of a combination of luck and the work of wonderful directors, writers and filmmakers.
I feel extremely lucky. I am happy about this honor and appreciate it very much. “I’m grateful for all the great actors I’ve worked with.”
Ford concluded the speech by saying, “I am deeply fortunate to have had the opportunities that I have had and I am grateful.” Thank you. I won't take up any more of your time. Thank you very much.'
And while at the premiere of Feud: Capote vs The Swans on Tuesday, she responded to her husband's nice speech while speaking to People. “He's very supportive of me. It's a mutual thing.”
