Hailey Bieber: slim-fit jeans and loafers, the classic combination that anticipates two big trends of 2024
In recent years, baggy jeans have dominated the fashion scene, both on the runways and in street style. At the origin of the trend were influential brands such as Balenciaga, Diesel and JW Anderson as well as those stars – see Rihanna – who practically live in ultra-baggy jeans. But it seems things are changing. In fact, more and more stylists are leaning towards a more elegant aesthetic, characterized by high-waisted jeans and a slim-fit cut. Among the newcomers to this emerging trend is – surprise – Hailey Bieber.
Hailey Bieber in slim fit jeans and loafers
Last weekend, the model and founder of Rhode Beauty was spotted on the streets of Los Angeles in a casual look that was somewhat reminiscent of certain Princess Diana outfits at the time and featured several “classics” of the Bieber aesthetic: blue-red, cropped Loewe polo shirt, Khaite oversized leather jacket, thin-soled loafers, blue baseball cap, Bottega Veneta gold earrings and The Row Idaho tote bag. However, one detail surprised fashion observers. They were high-waisted jeans with a slim-fit silhouette that was clearly a far cry from the style we were used to seeing from Hailey. In fact, we've seen in the past that she preferred wearing various oversized styles from brands like Carhartt, Saks Potts and Martine Rose.
And slim-fit trousers triumph at men's fashion shows
Recently, two more supermodels and trendsetters, Bella Hadid and Emily Ratajkowski, were spotted wearing tapered denim pants, confirming, regardless of the larger or smaller leg width, an important trend: the progressive transformation of jeans into an elegant garment, all it takes to make pants out to steal the show with more valuable materials (see another trend from 2024, jeans with pressed creases, which were recently presented by Katie Holmes, among others). In addition, the men's fashion shows during Milan Fashion Week Men's Fall/Winter 2024-2025, particularly those of Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and Fendi, announced a return of slim-fit trousers.
The bottom line is that the wind is changing. And as much as you like your baggy jeans, maybe it's time to rethink our denim choices.
